Dear friend,

Halló and takk for being my friend. I would like to apologize in advance if I make any mistakes, but you see, I am an old country and this is the first email I send.

Don't worry, it's not long, and at the end of it there is a little present for you. (Nothing too fancy, just a song by one of my young people who make music.)

** I have what is called a "blog" **

The people who help me with things on this Inter-net have made something called a "blog" about me. They call it "A Blog About Iceland". (I think they were too tired to think of anything clever.)

On my blog you can read many things about me.

For example, what one of my young ones, 11-year-old Ástráður Leó, thinks kids can do when they come and visit me with their parents.

Ástráður thinks "other countries have cooler animals" than I do, and he is right. I don't have any crocodiles, just a lot of sheep that run around and sometimes cause trouble.

There is also the story of Annie from Dublin, who has red hair and used to live on me, but moved away and didn't think about me for a while. Then she came back to visit me and got a bit emotional.

She also took many good pictures of me, and drew this map to help you find my icebergs, lobsters, and Inter-net. A map of me, showing a glacier, lobsters and my Vík

Another friend of mine is Ms. Nicole Pollentier, who is an actual poet. She was kind enough to ghostwrite my "Brief and Mostly Correct Geological Autobiography" for me, which you can also read if you are not too busy. (Because Nicole was born in Texas, it has many big words in it.)

Finally, if you enjoy watching very cold people, you should see this video of my friend James.

He has made many friends among my people by trying to sleep with them, and swimming with them in my very, very cold sea. (James says this is a good strategy, but I am not sure it is good for everyone.)

** The sound of my music **

A picture of a volcanoI almost forgot the present. It is a bit of good, honest music, handmade by Mr. Ólafur Arnalds.

Just klikk here to go to a website where you can "download" it to your computer.

In case you don't know him, Ólafur started playing drums in heavy-metal bands that made a lot of noise. Now he also makes quiet music that can also make your life better.

This is as it should be.

Bless bless for now,
—Iceland

This email from Iceland is sent to you and exactly 4,902 other good people all over the world. It is a part of Iceland Wants to Be Your Friend, an initiative of your friendly neighbourhood Icelandic Tourist Board, Geirsgötu 9, IS-101 Reykjavík, and therefore very, very, very serious. It is created and cared for by real people at Takk Takk, using brains and fancy machines. Takk very much for reading.

Iceland would like to hear from you, but please don't reply to this mail. It is sent by silly robots who can't read. If you want to tell Iceland a story, or if you have good suggestions for it, just email deariceland@icelandwantstobeyourfriend.com where a really nice person who helps Iceland with its email will read it and maybe even reply to it, if he or she isn't too busy with something terribly important.

If you are not a subscriber to this email from Iceland then you can simply click here to subscribe. And voilà.
